Focus

I am drawn to the forms, colors, and sounds of both natural and artificial environments, often synthesizing them into quiescent states of transformation and connection. My work often finds root in elements that survive in the background, the sub layers, or less dominant areas of our human experience.  Bottom dwelling fish, lichen, electric bass players, microscopic organisms, and subtle behavioral patterns are just a few of the influences that surface throughout my work.

A variety of materials and methods are used to sample, transform, and connect natural and artificial stimuli, dissolving the imagined boundary between them. The work pushes and pulls between the raw and the streamlined, the wild and the controlled, finding connection through the juxtaposition of disparate elements. Endlessly adrift in the unknown, contrast provides psychological clarity; allowing us to understand what something is, by embracing what it is not.
